Police and sheriff's deputies were on the scene of a fatal vehicle accident that occurred in front of a flea market in Bluff City at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 11. Responders took the unidentified male driver of a Mazda pickup truck to the hospital, but he subsequently died from injuries suffered in the crash.

The driver of a Mercedes sedan had to be freed from the wreckage by rescuers removing the roof of her vehicle. A spokesperson from the Sullivan County Sheriff's office reported the woman was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. There was no further information regarding her condition.

An accident reconstruction team was called in to assist in the ongoing investigation. The preliminary account of this accident indicates that the pickup was struck by the car as it pulled out from the flea market onto Highway 11E. A witness reported that the area is prone to accidents, and the authorities agreed.

When someone is injured in a car accident, it is possible for those who are hurt to seek compensation for damages suffered because of the wreck. There may be things like medical expenses and lost wages to consider, and an injured party may experience intense pain and suffering.

A personal injury lawyer might help people involved in motor vehicle accidents by obtaining police reports and sorting through the details. The investigation could lead authorities to find one of the drivers responsible for the accident. If a deceased driver is found to be at fault, a lawyer can assist injured parties in filing a civil lawsuit against that person's estate. However, sometimes cases like this can be handled through insurance company negotiations and settlements without ever needing to enter civil litigation.
