Nashville Amputation Lawyers
Was Your Injury Caused By Someone Else’s Actions?
No matter what caused your amputation, whether it was through disease, an injury, an infection or any other reason, your life will dramatically change. Not only will you have to change the way you interact with the world due to your lost body part, but amputees will also need to be fitted with an expensive prosthetic limb and undergo extensive rehabilitation and physical therapy in order to regain an adequate range of movement and level of independence they enjoyed before the incident.
Our Nashville amputation attorneys at Kinnard Law have spent the past three-plus decades providing injured victims throughout Tennessee and neighboring states with the experienced legal representation they need to secure the compensation they deserve. If you or someone you love suffered an amputation due to someone else’s negligence or wrongdoing, contact us today to discuss your case with a member of our team.
What Can Cause an Amputation?
While anything from malpractice to trauma to illness could cause an amputation, some of the most causes include:
- Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD): People who suffer from PAD run the risk of having fatty deposits build up in their arteries, which can restrict blood flow to the muscles in their legs. If the flow remains dangerously restricted, those suffering from this disease may suffer critical limb ischemia (CLI). This complication can cause the skin to become cold, dry, pale, smooth and shiny and may cause open sores, ulcers, prevent wounds from healing, atrophied muscles and gangrene. If PAD isn’t caught and treated early on, amputation may be the only way to prevent further damage.
- Diabetes: Diabetics with dangerously high blood sugar levels are far more likely to need amputation – the elevated levels can cause nerve and/or blood vessel damage, also known as peripheral neuropathy. Ulcers often form on the affected areas, and if they become infected and aren’t treated immediately, amputation may be the only way to prevent their spread to other parts of your body. In many cases, amputation can be avoided through proper monitoring and care.
- Trauma: Limbs can be injured, crushed, torn off, cut or seriously burned in an accident, and amputation may be the only way to prevent infection from spreading or further damage.
- Cancer: Certain cancers that affect skin and bone may need to be treated through amputation if other forms of treatment are unsuccessful.
