A Sept. 16 accident in Memphis claimed the lives of two men, according to police. Moreover, a third man suffered critical injuries in the 2 a.m. accident, which reportedly occurred near the vicinity of Rhodes Avenue and Wedgewood Street.
According to authorities, three individuals were riding in a 1996 Chevrolet Corvette that was traveling at a high speed when it careened out of control and left the roadway. The Corvette reportedly struck a trash can and a light pole before crashing into the yards of two residences. While lurching off of the roadway, the vehicle went airborne and ultimately landed on its roof, authorities stated.
Two of the car's occupants had been ejected from the moving vehicle, and the third occupant became trapped inside the Corvette. Officials pronounced a 46-year-old man dead at the scene of the accident. Emergency personnel transported a 38-year old man and a 24-year-old man to Regional Medical Center, where the younger man died. Officials listed the 38-year-old man in critical condition.
It was not immediately clear whether alcohol was a contributing factor in the event. According to authorities, the investigation into the accident in ongoing.
